The catering at Biddick Academy is provided by Hutchison Catering who have an enviable reputation for delivering excellence in food and customer service in schools. We design our menus through a specialist team of chefs and nutritionists who provide a variety of healthy, nutritional food bought fresh from the best suppliers and prepared traditionally with care; our menus always meet or exceed the Government’s school meal standards.

We have witnessed significant changes in both expectations and needs of not only students but staff and visitors to schools. We like to think that we have been proactive in adapting to best provide for these. We have worked closely with Biddick Academy to offer students a wide selection of appealing healthy choices, our menu focuses on home-cooked dishes with plenty of vegetables, fruit and salad. Students can choose from a range of nutritionally balanced main course dishes in addition to pasta dishes, filled jacket potatoes, salad pots, filled sandwiches, baguettes, Panini’s, fresh fruit pots and yoghurt. Current menu choices are going down well with students and we have also had some great feedback.

Food safety is paramount and you can trust us to only use suppliers and producers who meet the highest food safety standards. You can also be completely confident about the source of our products and ingredients which can all be traced back to the original supplier. We always aim to use homegrown UK produce where possible and when it is seasonally available.

At Biddick Academy we are committed to supporting students with their medical needs. Our medication policy is in place so that staff and parents are aware of the guidelines we will be working to in connection with administering medication in school.

Whilst there is no legal or contractual duty on staff in school to administer medicines or supervise students taking their medication, nevertheless, we wish to support our students where we can. The prime responsibility for a student’s health lies with the parent or carer who is responsible for the student’s medication and should supply the school with any relevant information.

We will ensure:

  • That the medication is kept in a secure place during the school day
  • That the medication is only accessed by an identified person
  • That each time the medication is administered the school’s medication record is completed

What we expect parents to do:

  • We would expect parents not to ask staff to administer medication unless it is absolutely essential that this takes places within school hours
  • Any medication brought into school should be done so by a responsible adult (e.g. parent/carer)
  • The medication should be brought into school in the pharmacist’s original packaging, with the pharmacist’s name clearly visible
  • Only the amount of medication required for school use should be brought in
  • The prescription and amount to be taken should be typed or printed clearly on the outside of the packaging and there should be no alterations made to the label
  • To provide the name of the doctor prescribing the medication

At Biddick Academy we take pride in the high standards we expect of ourselves. We believe the high standard of dress of our students reflects this. The uniform is important in developing students’ identity within the Academy and taking pride in it.

The Academy’s grey v-necked jumper, clip-on tie, tracksuit bottoms, PE T-shirts, and PE sweatshirts are available to purchase from the Academy reception.

Parents/carers are asked to ensure that their children meet the Academy’s expectations.

Additional Information

  • Outdoor coats are to be removed when entering the Academy building, and are not to be worn in classrooms and corridors
  • Grey v-necked jumper is not to be tucked into trousers or skirts
  • White shirts are to be tucked into trousers or skirts

All items of uniform are to be clearly marked with your child’s name and form group. This will drastically cut down the amount of lost and unclaimed property gathered by the Student Office and the P.E. Department. If students lose an item they should enquire at the Student Office in the first instance. Lost property is kept for one month from the date of being handed in.
