Take Control was born from a belief the Pastoral Team had that it was time our students looked within themselves for motivation. The modern world displays a need for individuals to be proactive and well-organised. This, combined with an increase in 100% examinations, saw a need for us to empower our students with revision skills, organisation techniques and valuable learning skills.
Take Control looks at how students can organise their independent studies and revision. How can they take control of their own learning instead of allowing others too? This initiative is about being active not passive. We have two days a year which are dedicated to Take Control as well as a programme which is delivered in Tutorial lessons, Assemblies and Enhancement.
We are really excited about this shift of culture and the enthusiasm with which it has been met.

Biddick is a popular and oversubscribed Academy, mainly serving the south of Washington, with around 1100 students on roll. We make a commitment to staffing and as a result we have one of the lowest teacher pupil ratios in the area.
Most of our students have English as a first language; the number of pupils with learning disabilities and the proportion entitled to free school meals are below average.
